This song-cycle was composed in 1977 with words by Nancy Bush. It is about the work done by women, and their lives in relation to it. The Prologue describes various kinds of work, in particular the bearing and rearing of children. The second song is a weaving song and the third song describes the monotonous, tiring work in a factory. The Epilogue is a lullaby in which a mother expresses her hopes that her baby will grow up into a peaceful world.
